This is the field where Mao is said to have played in when he was a boy. As a side note, of the droves of tourists in Shaoshan, many of whom were Communist Party officials, Ron and I were the only foreigners. Many of the Chinese tourists found it a bit strange, if not humorous, that a couple of Americans had come to Shaoshan to pay their hommage to Mao.
