It's quite a common occurrence in China (especially in smaller towns) for people to yell out "lao wai," a somewhat jokingly derogatory term for a foreigner, when they see a white guy walking down the street. Sanming was the first place I ever heard somebody yell out "a la bo" (the word for "Arab") when they saw me.
