Getting Zhao Zhao (pronounced
"Jow Jow") on the train was quite the hassle. Technically dogs
are not allowed trains in China. So in order to get him on, Melody and
I split up, and when questioned I told the security guards that I had
just arrived from the United States and had brought my dog from home,
and there was no way that I could ditch him at the airport (or eat him
for dinner for that matter). I was told that normally they could make
an exception to the rule, but because of the bird flu scare (up until
this point I was unaware cocker spaniels were frequent carriers of bird
flu) I would not be able to bring him on. After a great deal of arguing
and fabricated stories, I somehow made my way onto the train with Zhao
Zhao.
