After spending a night in Lanzhou with some jazz musicians who we met in a pharmacy, we headed out to a small town called Xiahe. It was 2 buses and 6 hours away from Lanzhou. By this point in our journey, it was a relatively short trip. As you can see from the picture, much of the land in Western China has suffered from major deforestation.
