The train from Urumqi to Kashgar stops in Kuqa at about 5 am, so we stayed there for exactly one day...from 5 am to 5 am. Needless to say, by the time we got back on the train we were pretty exhausted. Because there were no seats available, we had to plop down on the floor to catch some Z's. Right as this picture was being taken, gum was sticking to my shorts, which were the only pair I had brought. I had to wear the same shorts for the next week until a youth hostel laundry service lost them...maybe it was an omen.
