One of the attractions of Kuqa is the cornicopia of ancient ruins in its viscinity. Most. like these, are so ancient you would never know they were actually ruins of something unless somebody (or in our case the Lonely Planet guidebook) had told you in advance. Most of them, like the picture above, consisted of rammed-earth embattlements or city walls.
