This earth building is part of the "Yongding Earth Building Cultural Village," which is basically an small area where they have cleaned everything up, done some nice landscaping, and in effect, sucked all the life out of the buildings.  When you go in, the entire first floor consists of shops selling postcards and other touristy crap.  It's a big hit with Chinese tourists, but fortunately my tourguide bypassed it on our journey.
